(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College will welcome The Reverend Dr. Kevin DeYoung, Senior Pastor of Christ Covenant Church in Matthews, NC, as commencement speaker addressing traditional undergraduates of the class of 2022 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, at Reeves Field. Charles “Mick” Jones ’08, MSOL ‘11, Beaver Falls City Manager, will speak to graduates of adult degree, graduate degree, and Pittsburgh Campus programs at 3 p.m. in Metheny Fieldhouse.
DeYoung leads Christ Covenant Church (PCA) in Matthews, NC. He earned a B.A. in Religion from Hope College in Holland, MI, his Master of Divinity degree at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA, and his doctorate in Early Modern History at the University of Leicester in the UK. He is also an Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte. He previously served as pastor of University Reformed Church in East Lansing, MI.
A regular speaker at churches, conferences, colleges, and seminaries around the world, DeYoung has also published more than a dozen books for adults and children, including “Just Do Something” and “The Biggest Story.” His book, “Crazy Busy: A Mercifully Short Book About a Big Problem,” was named the 2014 Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Book of the Year. In addition, Christianity Today has awarded Book of the Year honors to three of his books in 2009, 2010, and 2013. World Magazine named “What Does the Bible Really Teach About Homosexuality?” one of its 2015 Books of the Year.
DeYoung and his wife Trisha are parents to nine children.
Graduate, adult, and Pittsburgh Campus commencement speaker, Mick Jones serves as City Manager for the City of Beaver Falls, PA. He was previously the city’s Chief of Police. Jones earned his bachelor’s degree in Organizational Development and his master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Geneva College. He also holds associate degrees in Police Technology and Criminal Justice from the Community College of Beaver County. He serves on numerous boards throughout the Beaver Valley and has earned awards such as the 2016 NAACP Community Service Award and the 2012 New Pittsburgh Courier 50 Men of Excellence Award. Jones also served in the U.S. Air Force Security Police Force and as Deputy Sheriff for the Beaver County Sheriff’s Office.
A baccalaureate service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 6, in Metheny Fieldhouse. The message will be delivered by The Reverend Dr. Jeffrey Stivason, Pastor of Grace Reformed Presbyterian Church in Gibsonia, PA. Stivason is a faculty member at the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary.
