Beaver Falls, PA- Geneva College will partner with Dordt University of Sioux Center, Iowa, to give students a head start on earning a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. Students taking courses as a part of Geneva’s Social Services major may be eligible for credit at Dordt toward an MSW.
“This partnership evidences the high quality and value of a social services major at Geneva College and its ability to successfully prepare students for graduate studies,” says Professor Stephanie Schindel, Chair, Department of Psychology and Social Services, Geneva College. “The acceptance of our SSV program credits will allow our graduates to complete a marketable MSW degree in less than two years at an institution that shares a deep-rooted Christ-centered mission.”
The opportunity to collaborate with Dordt is a growing trend occurring in higher education to help students achieve their goals in a shorter time.
“The partnership between Dordt University and Geneva College is valuable because it creates a shorter pathway to a Master of Social Work for students,” says Joe Bakker, dean for online, graduate, and partner programs at Dordt. “The partnership recognizes the work the students have already completed at Geneva saving them time and money as they pursue a Master of Social Work at Dordt.”
The strength of Geneva’s social services program lies in the integration of the biblical perspective with classical and modern theoretical positions, as well as practical approaches. Students experience application of behavioral, cognitive, and social concepts that are personally rewarding, and the program provides a rich variety of classroom, laboratory, and field experience. With this experience students are well-prepared to launch into Dordt’s MSW program.
Dordt’s MSW is offered 100 percent online, allowing students to participate from anywhere in the world. It is taught from a Christian perspective, supporting Dordt’s mission to equip students to work toward Christ-centered renewal in all areas of life. The program offers students three tracks: clinical practice, community practice and administration, and advanced generalist. Students can participate in the program on a part-time or full-time basis, and students can enter the program at the beginning of the fall, spring, or summer semesters. Dordt’s Master of Social Work is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and approved by the Higher Learning Commission.
