Meet the Staff: Marlene Wise

Meet the Staff: Marlene Wise

Who are you and what were you doing before coming to Geneva?

Marlene Wise

My name is Marlene Wise, and I am the associate director of health services at Geneva College. I am a physician assistant and graduated from St. Francis University in 2003. I am new to Geneva as of March 2025, but for the past 22 years I have worked in primary care and family practice settings in the local area.

When should a student come to see you?

As a physician assistant I can evaluate and treat most minor illnesses and injuries such as colds, flus, sinus infections, strep throat, headaches, stomach illnesses, bronchitis/asthma, allergic reactions, concussions, skin infections, joint injuries, etc. I am also able to complete point-of-care testing such as strep tests, COVID-19 tests, influenza tests, and urine tests for urinary tract infections. I work in collaboration with an overseeing physician, Dr. Jason Rodriguez, MD. Dr. Rodriguez is a local primary care physician and is available by phone or in person if a serious illness or injury should arise.

The Health Services Clinic is fully stocked with most over-the-counter medications and bandages however I can prescribe antibiotics or prescription medications if needed. Prescription medication will be sent electronically to a local pharmacy, and it is the responsibility of the student to pick it up. I am unable to refill or maintain any long-term prescription medication that students may have. These medications must be refilled by the original prescribing provider.

What does it cost?

The care given in the Health Services Clinic is free to all residential and commuter students. We do not accept copays or bill health insurance. The clinic is HIPAA compliant, and all information is kept confidential.

How would a student meet with you?

The clinic is open Monday-Friday from 8a.m. to 3 p.m. Students are encouraged to schedule an appointment online through their student health portal. The portal allows the students to schedule a day and time that does not interfere with their class schedule. However, walk-in visits are also welcome.

What's something you want to tell parents regarding your area?

If a student should need medical care during an evening or on a weekend, they are encouraged to visit a local urgent care or emergency room.

It is an honor to care for your students during their time at Geneva. My hope is to provide a safe and comfortable space where they can come with their health questions and concerns while they are away from home.
