Geneva Welcomes New Graduate Faculty Members

Geneva College is proud to welcome two new graduate faculty members this year. Both of these professors possess a wide range of industry expertise and a strong dedication to Geneva College’s mission. 

Henrique AlvimHenrique Alvim has joined us as the new Director of the Master of Arts in the Higher Education program and is a professor in the higher education program. He also serves as Geneva’s Assessment Coordinator. Professor Alvim earned his PhD in Cultural Foundations of Education with an emphasis in philosophy of education from Kent State University. He also earned a master’s in counseling with an emphasis in student affairs from Youngstown State University and a law degree (Bachelor of Juridical Sciences) from the Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba, in his native country of Brazil. Along with many other scholarly articles, Alvim published an article in 2021 entitled “When the Church Comes to Campus: Christian Convictions and the Challenge Toward Authentic Membership in the Secular Academy” for Growth: The Journal of the Association for Christians in Student Development. Most recently, he published an eBook titled, Globalization and Education: A Humanizing Interdisciplinary Outlook, in partnership with the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul in Brazil.

Alvim says, “I feel extremely blessed that, in this season of my life and professional career in higher education, the Lord has opened this amazing opportunity to join in the efforts of Geneva College to inspire students toward a greater sense of purpose and calling in their lives – inspired, first and foremost, by the Word of God.”

David CollinsDavid Collins has joined the Counseling Department at Geneva College as an assistant professor. He is a Licensed Certified Counselor (LPC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Collins is also certified in Gestalt Therapy. Some of his previous job experience includes being a Regional Coordinator and Counselor and Intake Supervisor and Counselor at Christian Counseling Associates, Youth Pastor at Washington Assembly of God, and Mental Health Worker at Glade Run Lutheran Services. Collins has also produced many presentations and publications within his discipline. His most recent presentation was in 2021 at the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia entitled “Integrated Clinical Supervision: How the Transtheoretical Clinical Model of Supervision Informs the Integration of Faith in Supervision.”

Professor Collins states, “The Biblical truth Geneva is founded upon becomes inseparable from the study of counseling. The ability to stand on that truth is paramount to me and Geneva.”
