Have conversations with others and begin selecting your desired roommates for the next academic year.
Register for classes & save the date for when the housing application opens! The housing application will be opened online. Students are encouraged to register for classes & housing as soon as possible!
Designate one roommate to be a Room Representative. This person will be responsible for selecting all roommates and making sure everything is complete before room selection.
Groups of roommates are encouraged to plan for multiple room possibilities. For example, 4 roommates who are trying for a 4-person apartment should plan for the possibility of joining with other people if 4-person apartments are no longer available.
What do I absoultely need to know about housing selection.
Students must plan to live in an apartment in Geneva Arms or Young Hall. Apartment sizes include: 3, 4, 5, & 6 person apartments.Traditional hall rooms (Clarke, McKee, Memorial or Pearce) will not be available for reservation initially, but there will be opportunity to indicate these spaces as preferred housing should a student desire to live in these halls. Students will only be permitted to live in traditional halls as space allows and priority will be given to those with the most academic credit.
Students must be able to fill an apartment to capacity with roommates that are all registered for a full-time class load for the Fall semester (12+ credit hours) by the start of the designated Housing Selection Dates before they will be allowed to reserve a space. Any desired roommate that is not registered for a full course load will not be able to be considered a part of the Housing Selection Process and therefore will change the apartment-size your roommates will be permitted to reserve.
Only registered current and transfer students can select housing during the Housing Selection Dates. Students will not be able to select new incoming first year students to be their roommates for this process.
What else is helpful to know about housing selection?
For students who wish to room with a readmitted student, the readmission process AND registration for a full course load must be completed, prior to the Housing Selection Dates, before the readmitted student will be permitted to be selected as a roommate in the process.
Students may opt into specific waiting lists for traditional halls (Clarke, McKee, Memorial or Pearce) should space allow for upperclassman in these areas. To be considered to live in these spaces, you must opt for an apartment on campus first and all roommates must be willing to move to the desired traditional hall.
Students studying abroad for Fall may not select a housing space until December 2024 (a month prior to the Spring semester). The only exception to this is if two students (one studying abroad in Fall and the other studying abroad in Spring) select housing together for the same space in a room.
Students with a documented disability who want to explore reasonable housing accommodations should contact the Student Success Center (ssc@geneva.edu) prior to Housing Selection in order to seek approval for a housing accommodation.
Students looking to pursue living in a single room will be given this option at the cost of room and a half. Based on availability and credit total, students will be given the opportunity to select a single room. All students wishing to pursue this option should email housing@geneva.edu with their Name, ID Number and Credit Total.
The Residence Life Office reserves the right to deny a student’s housing preference and change a student’s housing assignment. Any housing openings present after the Housing Selection period or that develop throughout the summer and year may be filled by current or incoming students at the discretion of the Residence Life Office at any time.
What happens if I change my mind about my housing or plan to commute instead?
If students select housing and then decide to pursue another space on or off-campus after the Housing Selection Dates, they will be subject to a $100 housing change fee. After June 10th, the fee will rise to $150. (This policy is designed to hold students accountable to the commitments made to potential roommates and students who would have otherwise selected for the open space.)
All students wishing to live off-campus/commute must apply each academic year for approval through myGeneva (Student Information > Student Life Info > Enrolled Student Forms > Commuter Form) and provide the appropriate information in their application. Residence Life will contact each applicant when all documentation is complete. For further information on the Commuter Application Process and the necessary documentation needed, please visit www.geneva.edu/residence-life/commuter-app.
Any student who chooses to live off campus/commute without prior approval (including those who meet the list of approved reasons in the Student Handbook) will be subject to room and board charges for the full semester in question and will face disciplinary action. For example, if a student states that they are commuting from their parents’ home but are living in an off-campus apartment, they would be found in violation of the off-campus policy.
