Technology has changed the way we live our lives, so it should come as no surprise that it offers aid for college students who want to make better grades—via apps. Yep, there’s an app for that. Apps that organize your life, take and organize notes, brainstorm for new ideas and so much more.

For college students like you, apps can provide easy access to information, tools and notes across multiple platforms. Apps can help to keep you focused, streamline your study methods and increase your productivity. Apps certainly can make the time you spend studying easier and more productive, but there are hundreds on the market. Which ones are best? What apps are good for college students? What apps help you study? Are there any free apps?

Fortunately, many good apps can be found with costs that range from free to thirty dollars. And most apps work for both iOS and Android users, making it easy to find one that works for you. But let’s try to find answers to all your questions by taking a look at some of the top apps for college students today.

  1. Evernote

In college, you spend a lot of time taking notes ... A LOT! Why not use an app that takes notetaking to the next level?  Evernote could be the solution you’re looking for. Highlights include:

  • Formatting tools that assist you in writing how you think

Evernote is also used by many business professionals, so once you learn how to use the app, you could be using it for many years to come.  Check out their plans beginning with a free basic subscription.

  1. iStudiez Pro

iStudiez Pro helps students track assignments, labs, lectures, events and grades all in one place. It also enables you to:

  • Arrange assignments

  • Organize personal and academic schedules

Quizlet replaces paper flashcards making it quicker and easier to start studying. According to their website, 90% of students who use  Quizlet report higher grades. You can create your own study sets or use those other students have created. Topics/subjects covered by Quizlet include:

  • Science
  • Arts and humanities
  • Math
  • Social science
  • Computer skills
  • Sports
  • Hobbies

Basic Quizlet is free. Quizlet Plus is $19.99 for a full year subscription, or you can choose to pay $1.67/month.

  1. Todoist

More than ten million people organize their lives with  Todoist. From upcoming assignments to shopping lists to books you want to read, Todoist will help you organize your life beyond just the classroom. Todoist will help you organize any and everything. Some things Todoist will help you accomplish include:

  • Organizing and prioritizing projects and tasks
  • Offering a clear overview of your schedule and any tasks you need to complete
  • Tracking your progress and productivity trends
  • Connecting with apps you already use, such as your calendar, Dropbox, Zapier, IFTTT and Amazon Alexa
  • Determining the information layout that best serves your needs, customizing it to be as simple or in depth as you prefer
  • 10+ plugins and apps that let you accomplish what you need to do wherever you are
  • Syncing with all your devices

The  pricing on Todoist ranges from free to $5.00/month, depending upon the features you want and the amount of storage you will need to organize your school and personal life. For just $30 annually, Todoist Premium lets you color code graphs, create custom templates, perform automatic backups and more. Enrolled students and education professionals may be eligible for a  discount of 70%. 

  1. SimpleMind

SimpleMind is a cross-platform mind-mapping tool that offers unique layouts to brainstorm and create useful mind maps. Mind mapping helps to organize your thoughts, generate new ideas and is a good way to assist in information recall. SimpleMind highlights include:

  • Interactive, intuitive and easy to use
  • Add documents, links, notes and media including voice memos, videos and images
  • Can be synchronized across platforms (each purchased individually) using Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive
