The transition from high school to college often comes with excitement and benefits, however, this transition is not without challenges. Becoming a college student allows for more freedom and independence than high school, but college students do not need to try to manage everything all alone. Geneva offers many resources to support students as they navigate their transition to college. Whether you are discerning your career path, noticing mental health concerns, trying to make friends, or struggling with schoolwork, Geneva offers resources to mitigate the challenges that students may face.
- Center for Calling and Career: The Center for Calling and Career is a valuable resource for all students. Whether you are deciding a major or a field of study, looking for jobs or internships, need help preparing for an interview, writing or refining your resume, or trying to prepare for life after college, the counselors in the Center for Calling and Career can help you out. Entering the professional world can be stressful and overwhelming, so take advantage of the support offered by this department. Keep your eye out for upcoming events or schedule an appointment.
- Health Services: To meet the health needs of the campus, Geneva provides on-campus Health Services with qualified medical professionals. In emergency situations, students should call 9-1-1, but for non-emergent cases, Health Services can provide consultation and care. If you need assistance, all you need to do is schedule an appointment.
- Counseling Center: While Health Services meets the needs of students’ physical health, the Counseling Center provides support for students’ mental health. The Counseling Center is equipped with full-time counselors and graduate student interns so that any student can receive mental health care. There is no shame in asking for help, and the counselors on staff are ready and willing to support students as they navigate a difficult period of change. If you need care, don’t hesitate to schedule an appointment.
- Student Success Center: The Student Success Center exists to assist students with their academic needs. The SSC provides academic coaching, disability assistance, and peer-tutoring services. College courses can be rigorous, so lean on the help that this department offers. Geneva’s desire is for all students to be equipped with the tools they need to succeed, so if you need some extra help with academics, connect with the Student Success Center.
- Center for Student Engagement: While academic success is important, Geneva also hopes for students to build friendships and have fun while in school. The Center for Student Engagement provides opportunities for students to connect with others through clubs, on-campus events, adventure learning, connections in the Beaver Falls community, and much more. They provide numerous weekly events, as well as large-scale annual events. The CSE ensures that students have meaningful opportunities for relationship building, leadership development, and plain fun. Be sure to check out their upcoming events on the CSE calendar.
- Crossroads Office: Crossroads is the Center for Enriched Learning, which means they provide several programs for students to engage in thoughtful learning. The Crossroads department oversees the early college program, the honors program, the international student experience, study abroad opportunities, and GVALS speakers. These opportunities encourage diversity and learning. Talk to Crossroads if you are interested in studying abroad or any of the other programs they offer.
- Writing Center: For some students, writing papers can be a challenge. And on a college campus, writing is unavoidable. If you want a little help writing a paper — whether you are just starting or are in the editing stage, check out the Writing Center. The Writing Center is located in the library, and they offer walk-in hours in addition to appointments. The students employed by the writing center are trained to help you improve your writing, no matter what your needs may be.
Every student faces different challenges, but you don’t have to face your challenges alone. Geneva offers these resources to help you thrive in any and every area of your academic journey. There is no shame in asking for help. As you make the transition from high school to college, keep these resources in mind so that you can make the most of your time in college.
