Summer is here and there is so much to do and see. You may find yourself at the beach, on a camping trip, at the park or in your own yard. We see trees, birds, grass, sky, lakes, oceans, animals, etc. The beauty is evident, but do you ever look closely to really see God and his workmanship in creation? Do we take his handiwork for granted? Whether on vacation or “staycation” these wonders can be seen and enjoyed if we just choose to open our eyes and notice them.
The world teaches us so much about the workmanship and caring nature of our creator. To give a little perspective, sometimes, we just need to look at a single part of creation like a tree. On a tree, there are hundreds of leaves. Each leaf contains four layers (upper epidermis, palisade layer, spongy layer and lower epidermis). Each of these layers serves an important purpose in the survival of the leaf. Carbon dioxide and sunlight, absorbed by the leaf, travels through the branches and into the trunk. It then mixes with the water taken from the soil to keep the tree alive. Finally, the tree releases oxygen into the air so that we can breathe and stay alive. This process continues over and over, day after day, year after year. Even from this simplified version of the process, one can see how God’s creation works together so elegantly.
So much is happening in just one single tree, and yet we often overlook it. God has made a beautifully intricate world, one that contains millions of independently-working variables that are also co-dependent on one another.
As you smell the sweet aroma of flowers, as you listen to the birds chirping or as you pass by the thousands of trees, find the glory in creation. As Job 12:7-10 says,
“7 But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; 8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. 9 Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? 10 In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind."
Whether staying home or traveling during this beautiful summer season, the wonders of God’s creation are there. With the fall leaves, winter snow and spring blooms, too, all you have to do is look and see all that is good. Because He is good – all the time
