Picking a college is stressful. There is no doubt about it. You need to consider where it is and how far away from home is it? What do I want to study? Will I like college? What is having a roommate like? However, one of the biggest questions, among all of those questions, is “How am I going to afford this?” Geneva College has done a great job of making college affordable to all students.

Private colleges tend to have a reputation when it comes to price - expensive. However, when one considers the aid from the college available to students to put toward their education, that price drops very quickly. Geneva College awarded over $15.6 million in grants and scholarships to students las year, and on top of that another $13,000,000 in federal, state, and private grants are offered in addition to Geneva College funds to aid students in their journey to graduation. This money is offered in scholarships or grants toward tuition. On top of this, students can apply for an on-campus job allowing them to make extra money towards their education.

As student debt becomes more and more of an issue in the United States, with a total of $1.56 trillion, students cannot take the pricing of a college lightly. Geneva has done an amazing job of countering the traditional standard in making private college affordable, not only through merit-based scholarships for traditional undergraduate students, but for transfer students as well. While Geneva offers traditional undergraduate scholarships like the Pro-Cristo Scholarship or the Founders Scholarship, transfer students can achieve the Dean’s Scholarship or the Tower Scholarship. There is aid available for almost every student looking to Geneva for an amazing Christ-centered education.

Despite Geneva’s many financial aid offers, you may have left over expenses. Let’s face it, sizable college loans are like a never-ending hole to many, especially if a postgraduate degree is involved in the student’s career path. However, it doesn’t need to be; anyone can apply for need-based grants in order to pay for college. A grant is like a student loan, but a grant does not need to be repaid; it’s free money! Everyone could use free money, so take it if you qualify. There are also scholarships students can collect outside of the college’s affiliation. Speaking with a school counselor is a great first step to finding some of these scholarship opportunities. If you think paying for college will be difficult, it also helps to apply for a work study job. Finally, loans should be your last resort in order to pay for college.

Though college can be stressful, it is still one of the many decisions that all people need to think about. Geneva College not only offers an amazing personalized education for all prospective students, but they are willing to help all students financially. In many cases, a private school may have a higher sticker price, but by the end of all the financial assistance each student is likely to be able to attend Geneva College and graduate with minimal debt and at a comparable cost to other colleges and universities, even publicly supported ones.
