Welcome Week

RESIDENT STUDENT CHECK-IN & MOVE-IN 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. // Roundabout & Your Residence Hall

We are so glad that you are here!  We will be moving students in at certain times based on the floor of your Residence Hall.  Please see the below graphic with the details for your move-in time.    

Once you’ve made it to campus and enter through the Geneva arch, a friendly face will greet you at the roundabout to welcome you to campus and begin the check-in process.

• If you have completed your New Student Forms and had your ID card photo taken, you should have received a “Fast Pass” either via mail or email to display on the driver’s side dash of your move-in vehicle(s). Once you’ve been checked in to Welcome Week at the roundabout, this pass will allow you to head straight to your Residence Hall to move-in to your room. 
• If you still have New Student Forms to complete, need an ID card picture, or have any other needs, the greeter will direct you around the roundabout to the tents stationed in Alumni Lot. Once you complete all necessary items, you'll head to your Residence Hall to move-in.

COMMUTER CHECK-IN 11:30am. – 1 p.m. // Inside Alexander Hall

Welcome to campus! We’re so excited to have you here! When you pull into campus, park in one of the lots on the left and the right. You'll then walk to Alexander Hall, check in inside, make sure you completed your forms and have an ID picture. We will also provide meal tickets for commuters to use during Welcome Week. 

EARLY ARRIVAL CHECK-IN 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. // Inside Alexander Hall

Students who have arrived early to campus for any number of reasons (fall sport, band, etc) will also check in this morning in Alexander Hall.

READING/WRITING PROFICIENCY EXAM* 11 a.m. - 12 p.m.  // NW 211 & 212 

Any deposited student that does not have a standardized test score (SAT, ACT, or CLT) for Reading and Writing needs to take the proficiency exam for Reading and Writing.  Many incoming students have taken the exam throughout the summer, but this will be the last time it is offered before the fall.  If you are a resident student who needs to take the exam and your move-in time is between 11am-noon, you will have time to move-in after the exam.   

LUNCH 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. // Alexander Hall or Local Options

New students can enjoy a meal at Alexander Dining Hall with their family (up to two members can eat for free). Additional tickets can be purchased at the Hospitality Station. 

You are also welcome to eat at a restaurant in the local community.  Here are some of our favorites.

• Pizza Joe's: 400 32nd St., Beaver Falls (across from campus)

Students Only - Students receive their Learning and Transition Group at Check-In

Get to know your Learning & Transitions class instructor, student mentors, and fellow classmates who will be with you throughout your first semester.

DINNER WITH L&T GROUPS 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. // Alexander Dining Hall

It's time to meet other students!  Students will eat in their groups and get to meet other students and mentors. Commuters will receive a meal ticket.  

GATEWAY CLIPPER PITTSBURGH EXCURSION 6 p.m. – 11:15 p.m. // Alumni Parking Lot

Get ready for a fun evening riverboat cruise in downtown Pittsburgh!

BREAKFAST 8:15 – 9 a.m. // Alexander Dining Hall

It’s the best way to start out the day! Go eat breakfast.

MATH PROFICIENCY EXAM & MATH PLACEMENT EXAM* 8:30 a.m.  // SE 022 

The Math Proficiency exam is for students who have not established math proficiency with a SAT, ACT, or CLT score, or a College Algebra class. The Placement Exam is primarily for Math, Science, and Engineering Majors and will place students into MAT 120 and MAT 161.

We have a great day planned with lots of valuable connections to peers, staff, and faculty who are here to assist your success in college. You also get class credit for being present. 

Here's a few things that will be part of Welcome Weekend: 

• You'll get your first Geneva syllabus!
• Get to know other students starting with you on this new journey. We know meeting new people is awkward, but it also makes college a lot better!
• Learning skills that will help you navigate life at college and thrive personally, academically, socially, and spiritually as you make the most of your college experience.
• Learning the systems Geneva uses to conduct education.  You'll learn how to print, how to use eLearning, Operoo, and more.
• Meeting with your faculty advisor
• Explore fun new activities with friends at an evening activity fest, and get free SWAG on a SWAG hunt around campus.

It can be awkward to try out a new church, but ahoy, we've made it less awkward.   There are about 20  upperclassmen who would like to take you with them to experience their church.   

(Note that in order to sign up for Church with a Friend that you'll need to activate your Operoo Account.  You can find the Church With a Friend Registration Form under the Form Library of Operoo.   Operoo is Geneva's Event Registration and Risk Management Software).
