As you walk through your first year here at Geneva, we want you to know that we here are for you. We are here to help you excel academically, connect socially, and grow spiritually. We want you jumping off the starting blocks feeling confident in your ability to succeed and knowing we have resources to support you.
In order to help you transition well, we have developed a First Year Experience Program designed specifically to help you thrive during your first year at Geneva. The First Year Experience Program consists of three main components: Welcome Week, The Learning & Transitions Course, and The Freshman Experience events program.
Click on the links below to get specific information regarding each component. We are excited to meet each of you, we are excited to support you, and we are excited for you to experience life at Geneva!
We are incredibly excited that you have made the decision to join the Geneva community. We are anticipating your arrival on campus and are ready to walk with you as you start your journey at Geneva College. The Welcome Week Student Leadership Team and First Year Experience staff are currently planning a variety of events to welcome you to Geneva College. Check-in begins August 20, 2014 10:00am-1:00pm, and the journey continues from there.
By attending Welcome Week, you will learn about the support services available to help you succeed academically, adjust to collegiate life, and meet new friends and peers. During orientation, you will meet staff, faculty, and new friends who are excited about your success and presence at Geneva College.
As Geneva College has invited you to Accept The Challenge, know that we as staff and faculty are here to walk with you through your new and exciting journey and experience. We are all looking forward to meeting and supporting you through your time in college.
SSC 101: Learning & Transition, or you may hear this as simply L&T, is 49 days of learning to thrive at Geneva College. L&T is the experience connecting you from Welcome Week into your new academic, social, and personal life at college.
In the SSC 101 course, you will learn and discuss how you can not just survive, but thrive during your transition to Geneva College. You will also build lasting relationship along the way, as you complete this course with your group starting in Welcome Week. Each Learning & Transition group has two student mentors from your major and an instructor.
The First Year Experience team works hard to integrate education, transition, and fun all into one package. Therefore, we host and cooperatively prepare numerous events and programs for you to attend throughout your first year.
From taking an exciting visit up to the apartments with your RA, to Passport Events tied in with your SSC 101 experience, to events connecting you with other communities on campus, we are here to help you make the most of your first year at college. Transitional Programming gets you, and we get you connected.
