Geneva College Commits to Student Job Search with Handshake

(BEAVER FALLS, Pa.) – Geneva College’s Career Development Center partnered with a new early talent network and employer management platform this semester. Handshake is an online employment database and search tool connecting students and young alumni to jobs and internships.

Geneva students who make use of Career Development services now begin by activating their preloaded Handshake profiles. Jobs and internships are rated by the college, and opportunities or companies considered disreputable are excluded from results.

“Handshake is free for students,” says Cara Fulton, Director of Career Development. “It has a nice filter system, so if you are looking for something specific, it will help you find a job that is right for you, and by using the services provided by the Career Development office, students can be assured that the job for which they are applying is legitimate.”

The combination of Geneva’s Career Development Center and Handshake offers advantages like the ability to vet employers, status tracking of applications and instant access to records while working with Career Development staff. Now, students will schedule appointments with Career Development and register for events through Handshake. In addition, the system offers helpful resources including resume and cover letter guides, interview preparation, career advice and helpful links by major.

Handshake was launched by three Michigan Tech college students in 2014. With more than nine million student users at over 500 colleges and universities and 250,000 participating employers, Handshake continues to grow as a resource for job-seekers and for organizations looking for talent.

Geneva College is a Christ-centered academic community that provides a comprehensive education to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor. Offering over 80 traditional undergraduate majors and programs, fully online Adult Degree Programs and high-demand graduate degrees, Geneva’s programs are recognized for their high quality. Adhering to the truth of Scripture, a Geneva education is grounded in God’s Word as well as in a core curriculum designed to prepare students vocationally to think, write and communicate well in today’s world.
