Attendance Policy

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT

Students are required to attend 11 services each semester.

  • To receive credit, students must attend services with their own ID card in their possession.
Credit cannot be earned for late arrival or early departure.
  • The College allows a limited number of absences for illnesses and other excused off-campus activities such as athletics, interviews, etc.
  • Alternatives are provided for students involved in student teaching, professional internship and other college-approved responsibilities.

EXCESSIVE ABSENCES

  • Students who do not attend the required 11 chapels per semester can forego the fine by writing a reflection paper on a chapel that they missed.  The students who do not attend the required 11 chapels receive a letter, through email, from the Vice President of Student Development with the paper requirements needed to fulfill the chapel requirement.  Students can only make up two chapels per semester by writing papers.  A fine of $50 per chapel requirement not met is added to their student account before the end of the semester.

    Assignment Details:

If a student is short of their chapel requirement for the semester, the student can choose to (1.) listen to a chapel talk that they did not attend and (2.) write an acceptable two-page double spaced reflection paper for each chapel they have missed, up to two chapels.

    • Students have 10 calendar days from Reading Day to submit their reflection paper(s).
    • The paper(s) are due by 5 p.m. on the 10th day.
    • If the paper(s) are deemed acceptable, the fine will be set aside.
    • If a paper is deemed unacceptable, the fine will be imposed for that chapel.

DISCREPANCIES

All Chapel attendance questions must be submitted within four weeks after the Chapel in question.

TEMPORARY ID CARDS

If a student loses their ID card, they may request a temporary ID card from the Student Development Office, located on the upper level of the Student Center.  Students seeking to receive chapel credit with a temporary ID card, or if they have forgotten their card, must see a Student Development staff member before they leave the fieldhouse to receive credit.  The Student Development staff stand at the exit of chapel and monitor the swiping system.
