A Comedy Odyssey

"This year’s Student Directed One Act Showcase, 2024: a Comedy Odyssey, is made up of 5 comedy shows including Prince Charming’s Complaint, The Farcical Follies of a Not-So-Certified Physician, The Printer Widow, The Whole Shebang, and Frozen Fish Sticks. These shows are all comedies and range from farce to satire to situational comedy.

In Prince Charming’s Complaint, directed by Kennedy Starling and Katelyn Kelley, the prince and his therapist explore why his marriages to 3 beautiful damsels have not worked out. The Printer Widow, written by Ellyn Newman and co-directed by Newman and Ethan Smith, tells the tale of a freshman Poli Sci major as she navigates and schemes her way through the year with not enough printer money. The Farcical Follies of a Not-So-Certified Physician, written and directed by Bekah Bell, highlights some of the common mistakes in doctors’ bed side manner, including the not so common mistakes of a man trying to be a physician – just to see if it’s as easy as it looks…

The Whole Shebang is directed by Rebecca Schaefer. This show explores serious questions of the creation of humans and the difficult lives that we lead through the humorous lens of a student’s doctorate project. And our final show, back by popular demand, Frozen Fish Sticks, will be directed by Ben Meese. This show follows 3 ordinary women who have been asked to participate in market research for a frozen fish sticks company. Lead by a charismatic market researcher, the 3 women challenge each other and come to major revelations about life and love.
