Greg Beechaum

Gregory Beechaum is a Communication major with a concentration in Public Relations. He knew what he wanted to major in before he came to Geneva College. “I had a good, but broad understanding of the communications field, and I was also in love with sports,” Beechaum says, “I felt like the best way to be a part of that sports world without actually playing would be through the field of communication.” The South Richmond, Virginia native is a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America, was involved with the men’s basketball program from 2014 through 2017, and writes the sports section for The Cabinet.

Throughout his four years at Geneva, he has developed a deep admiration for his professors. “I love how they create an environment that attempts to get the most out of students in terms of integration of faith and learning.” Professors, as well as other factors have influenced Beechaum’s faith while at Geneva. “Growing up in a predominantly black church, there were a lot of things I experienced on campus that allowed me to broaden the scope of worship, Christian principles, and how they are understand the faith.”

One of his favorite memories at Geneva was when he joined a group of friends to hike up to the “G”. “We brought a speaker and listened to music in the middle of the night. It was probably one of the most relaxing moments I’ve shared with anyone here,” Beechaum says.

Finally, Beechaum has some advice for future Geneva students: Stay awake during Chapel. He says this because he sees the importance in taking advantage of every experience that students are offered. He continues saying, “The only way you can grow is to put yourself in positions to see and do things that you initially wouldn’t consider. You’d be surprised at what you learn about yourself.”

Beechaum is excited to see where the Lord takes him after Geneva. Wherever he is going, he knows the future is bright. “I know I want to do a lot great thing in the future, with some lofty goals, however I don’t want lose the core of who I am to reach that and Geneva did a good job by keeping that a priority.”
