Thanksgiving Break is a time of joy and anticipation for college parents as they look forward to welcoming their college student home. Whether your student is a first-year or a senior, fall break is a valuable time to reconnect with them and show them your love and support.

Thanksgiving break is also a great chance to catch up with your college student and learn more about their academic progress and challenges.  Here are some questions to ask your college student about their college academics:

  • What are some of the academic goals you have set for yourself this semester?
  • How are you planning to achieve them?
  • What are some of the academic resources available on campus that you have used?
  • What are some of the academic successes that you are proud of or excited about this semester?
  • How did you celebrate them or how do you plan to celebrate them?

These questions can help you gain a better understanding of your college student’s academic experience while showing them support and encouragement by being a positive listener.

Parents, did you know?

The Student Success Center, located in the Student Center, offers academic support in the form of one-to-one coaching in study skills, time management, strategies for organization and so much more!  The Student Success Center can guide you to the writing center, math help, chemistry help sessions, and free peer tutoring.
